My Wish List for Santa Claus

Dateline: 12/23/97

Dear Santa,

Well, it’s that time again. I am sending you my list of all the really nice things I would like for Christmas. I know you are on a budget too so you can’t bring everything, but I know you will bring the best ones.

By the way, thanks for that light snowfall you delivered last Christmas Eve and for the Contact Manager software you left in my stocking.

Here’s this year’s “Wish List”.

For my company:
I would like to have one of our long-time customers grow into a major account and bring us lots of new work. I would really appreciate it if you could get the government to cut back on a few of the more idiotic regulations and maybe cut out one form I had to fill out this year. Finally, if you could settle down the stock market a little, so investors could look at our value not just market momentum, I’d be grateful.

For my employees:
I would really like to have all of them back next year, so please keep an eye on them during the holidays. If you could put a little bit of confidence in each of their stockings I know they’d appreciate it. Let them know that their employment is secure next year, even if the nature of their job has to change. Sprinkle a little “Innovation Powder” on whatever you leave for them. I sure could use some help coming up with fresh ideas around here.

For my family:
Give them anything they ask for. They deserve it for putting up with me over the past year. The late or missed dinners; my tying up the home computer for spreadsheets and email; and especially for my embarrassing them by talking to their friends about my business.

For myself:
Well, I’m still waiting for that “American Flyer” electric train set you were supposed to bring me back in fourth grade. Think how neat that would look in my office now!

Thanks, Santa.

PS I hope everyone whose holiday traditions are different than mine understands why I limited this to the ones I know best. Happy Holidays to everyone and may the coming year bring you everything you wish for.
