Week 9 - Assistant Vice President (AVP)
March 16, 2001
The field of candidates is getting smaller each week. The person you vote off this week won't get promoted to "Assistant Vice President" like everyone else. Just like the TV show, you decide who to promote by voting one person out of the company each week.
Play along each week as we look at what it takes to survive the politics and competition in the workplace. Remember, we started at trainee and we'll end up at CEO. Who is not qualified to be a manager? Vote that person off. You can vote for one person on each team if you wish.
Ogakor held together
Last week I predicted "Ogakor will stick together and vote off Alicia, or Nick if she is immune." That's just what they did. It was an easy prediction, though, because it was in their best interest to do so.
For a while, it looked like Tina might side with Ogakor to vote Jerri off, but something or someone changed her mind. I'm guessing it was Colby again, just as he did when they voted Mitchell off earlier. He probably, and correctly, told her that they just had to wait one more week and then they could boot Jerri without losing their numerical superiority.
Last week I also predicted it would be Elizabeth who emerged as the new leader of the former Kucha tribe. Alicia and Rodger seemed to have resigned themselves to getting picked off. Nick was nowhere to be seen. However, Elizabeth was all over. She was encouraging Rodger and Alicia. She was bonding with Tina. She was figuring out the "angle" that Kucha could use to survive. She tried as hard as she could to get Jerri booted, but just couldn't pull it off. At least not yet.
CTO is in trouble
Jerri is definitely the CTO (Chief Trouble Officer) in this game. It hasn't helped her yet. Now it's going to get her voted off. The scenes with her "correcting" Elizabeth in proper rice cooking methods were telling. The most obvious sign that Jerri is in trouble, though, was the rest of them sitting around the fire talking about her while she and Amber were off enjoying their reward-challenge dinner. All remarked how suddenly pleasant the camp was and Keith pointed out Jerri's absence.
New alliances
Last week I pointed out the potential for new friendships to be made and new alliances to be forged. My suggestion was Keith and Tina bonding with Elizabeth and Rodger. That started to happen. Elizabeth and Tina connected pretty quickly. Rodger was laying pretty low out of fear of getting voted off, but Elizabeth will look after him. Their mutual pact goes back to the first week and is based on genuine friendship, not gamesmanship. Keith's bond with Tina isn't as strong as Rodger's bond with Elizabeth, but Keith and Rodger seemed to hit it off well.
I think this foursome will tighten up this week. They will vote Jerri off, with help from most of the rest of the team. And then they will control their own destiny. They will be four against only three others (Colby, Nick, and Amber). I expect one of these four to win it all.
My Prediction
This one is almost too easy. Unless she wins immunity, Jerri will be voted off, probably by a 6-2 margin. If she does win immunity, look for Nick to get picked off. It lets Ogakor think they are still voting as a pack, but it doesn't harm the budding foursome of Tina, Elizabeth, Keith and Rodger.
