Week 6 - Manager #2

February 27, 2001

The field of candidates is getting smaller each week. The person you vote off this week won't get promoted to "manager" like everyone else. Just like the TV show, you decide who to promote by voting one person out of the company each week.

Play along each week as we look at what it takes to survive the politics and competition in the workplace. Remember, we started at trainee and we'll end up at CEO. Who is not qualified to be a manager? Vote that person off. You can vote for one person on each team if you wish.

Recap
I'm on a hot streak. If you have been following this series, you know my predictions have been right for the past three weeks. Last week I predicted that the producers (board of directors) would intervene to support Ogakor, which they did. I also predicted the resultant Kucha vote would get rid of Kimmi, which it did.

This week
This week's episode is a little harder to predict because of some unknown external forces (as often happens in business too.) The teasers for this week's show allude to someone getting seriously injured at Kucha. We don't yet know who got injured, how badly they got injured, or how the show's producers will adjust the show and its rules to account for the injury.

The injury could so unnerve Kucha that they lose focus. They could be so concerned about their fallen teammate that they don't focus completely on winning the competitions. Or they could adopt a "win one for the gipper" mentality and go all out to win as a tribute to the injured player.

Ogakor will be slightly distracted by the injury event, but it doesn't really effect them. They don't spend time with the other team, so they aren't really very close. Ogakor's biggest handicap remains the division within their own group rather than any external happenings at the other team.

Also, this is the final week before the teams merge into a single unit. All of them know how the more numerous Tagi tribe ganged up and got rid of the surviving Pagong tribe members after the merge last year. Kucha wants to maintain their numerical lead going into the merge. Ogakor wants to recover enough to go into the merge tied. Even if Kucha goes into the merge with a bigger group, I don't expect the systematic ousting of the other team to happen this year. For one thing, there isn't a strong alliance in Kucha this year, like there was in Tagi last year.

My Prediction
Whether the rumors that Alicia or Mike got injured are true doesn't matter. The remaining five members of Kucha know thay have a job to do. They have to survive if they are going to win the million dollar prize. The injury to their team mate may unnerve them a little, but I think they'll pull through.

Kucha has "owned" the reward challenge so far. So they may continue to do so. However, I expect they will be just enough distracted by the injury to lose the reward challenge. When they get to the immunity challenge, which is what really counts, I think they will pull back together and win. If Kucha does lose, Jeff and Alicia (or the injured person) are the most likely to get voted off. I would expect Jeff to lose.

However, if Kucha wins the immunity challenge, as I expect they will, Ogakor will be the team that has to vote someone off. The team remains divided with Tina and Keith in one camp and Jerri and Amber in another. Colby is the swing vote. Whoever Colby decides to vote against is gone.

Colby told Jerri, after the last tribal council, that he is "voting to make the team the strongest." That's why he got Tina and Keith to change their votes from Jerri to Mitchell last time. Since there willl be only one team after this vote, I don't think Colby will be concerned as much about keeping his team strong as he will be about getting rid of stong competition. He will want to vote Jerri off, because she is a potential threat to his ability to win it all. Keith and Tina will support him.

Jerri is too blinded by her personal dislike for Keith to mount an effective counter-attack to Colby. She won't even try to get Tina and Keith to vote Amber off, because they won't go along. Jerri doesn't want to get rid of Colby, because she wants his strength going into the merger, so she is stuck. I predict Jerri will be the next person voted out.
