Insider

By F. John Reh, About.com

Definition: A company insider is someone who has access to the important information about a company that affects its stock price or might influence investors decisions.

People who are not employees of the company may be company insiders. Auditors, outside counsel, brokers and analysts may fit the definition.

Examples: The company officers are insiders, but so are the accountants who prepare the quarterly statements and the Public Relations people who write the press release announcing the results.
