If a woman can make a baby in 9 months,

This expression is often used in project management to explain why the critical path can't be compressed. The argument is that some things just take a certain length of time to do.

The counter argument is that with proper planning and pre-positioning of assets it is possible. If a machine makes a widget in nine months, nine machines will make nine widgets in nine months, the equivalent of 1 per month.
