Could You Replace Your Receptionist With A Hologram?

It might seem tempting to replace your receptionist with a hologram, as one London firm has recently done, but it would be a mistake. The receptionist is the first point of contact you have with many of your customers. You want to have a talented, capable person in that role who can make your customers feel valued, not a projection of light that, as the article suggests "will be programmed to answer a "limited number of questions" and "point people in the right direction," which sounds like fancy talk for "she's going to be the single most frustrating thing that ever happened to our visitors.""

I always encourage my clients to recognize the value of a good receptionist and to reward that person appropriately. In fact, you should move the receptionist out of the admin function and into marketing.
