Smart managers use Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to measure and track their progress toward their key operational goals. Today I was asked whether there is a trend in KPIs away from tangible toward intangibles. While Key Performance Indicators vary by industry and by function they do not lend themselves to intangibles.
That's because Key Performance Indicators must be quantifiable measurements, agreed to beforehand, that reflect the critical success factors of your organization. There is no way to achieve accurate quantifiable measurements of "intangibles".
What KPIs do you use? How do you use them to help your unit or company succeed? Share with other managers the KPIs you like and tell us why.
