Protect Your Business Against Swine Flu

Tuesday September 8, 2009
The flu season is starting again in the northern hemisphere. This year we will see a recurrence of the swine flu in addition to the seasonal flu. The US government predicts that the H1N1 virus, also know as the swine flu, could infect as much as 30 percent to 50 percent of the population, leading to as many as 1.8 million hospitalizations and causing between 30,000 to 90,000 deaths. The numbers will be similar in other countries. How do you protect your business aganst such a threat?

The government recommends:

  • Wash your hands frequently with warm water and soap
  • Cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze or cough
  • Get vaccinated as soon as the H1N1 vaccine becomes available. Get the seasonal flu vaccine now
  • Stay home when you are sick. Don't return to work until 24 hours after your fever ends.
  • Don't panic and go to the government's web site for the latest information

More tomorrow.

One of the easy tactics businesses can use is to set up a phone conference service BEFORE the swine flu hits. That enables employees to work from home in case they are sick or have to take care of loved ones. Conferencing is convenient, inexpensive and the easiest way for everyone in the office to stay in touch with each other.
