Managing Change Means Managing People's Fear
Wednesday October 8, 2008
There is a lot of change happening in the business world right now. Companies are going out of business, being taken over by the government, or cutting back. Even if your company or industry is not directly affected, your employees may be worried. Your job, as their manager, is to keep them focused on the work at hand so they stay highly productive. If they don't, there is a good chance that they, and you, will be looking for a new job.
So the challenge for us as managers is to effectively manage change. It isn't always easy, but it can be done. Read Managing Change: Managing People's Fear to find out how.

Dear John, You are absolutely right, with the down turn of economy things are not looking bright. This is not only happening in the
West ( US and EEU) but all over the world.
Recession coming, and there will be over supply of labor( both technical and non technical). In the West still there is social security but in the developing countries things are really difficult.
Retraining people is a very difficult and expensive job.
As you rightly said the Fear ( Fear of unknown, fear of failure, fear of insult, fear of non performance, fear of again being thrown out from job ).
Giving the safety net is very very important.
With Warm Regards,
Debashish Brahma.
