Disaster Management And Crisis Planning

Tuesday September 2, 2008
Events like Hurricane Gustav make us all more aware of the need to prepare for disasters and emergencies. Disasters are large-scale events like hurricanes, floods and earthquakes where you may be on your own for awhile before help can get to you. In emergencies, like a fire, you only need to manage things until help arrives in a few minutes. In either case, the ability of your business and your employees to survive depends in large measure on how well you have planned. And in how well you have trained people in the execution of the plan.

Is your business is prepared to deal with such a disruption?

  • Do your people know what to do?
  • Do you have plans to shift work to other offices outside the area if needed?
  • Do you have your important client list somewhere safe so you can at least contact them to advise them of your situation?

If you haven't yet read the article Survive the Unthinkable Through Crisis Planning I would encourage you to do so for help in developing your crisis management plan.

In addition, I have added more resources to the Disaster Planning Resources and Information section on this website that link to additional resources on the Internet to help you develop your disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Don't put this off. You need to prepare now - before the disaster or emergency occurs.
