Eating Our Own Dog Food

Monday June 30, 2008
Many companies make a point of using their own products and using that as part of their marketing. The expression "eating our own dog food" conveys this. That is why I find it amusing when the opposite happens. For example, today I was passed by the "courtesy van" from one of the local car dealers. The van was made by one of their competitors.

Some companies try to bring the expression upscale by changing it to "drinking our own champagne". I think that is unnecessary and pretentious, but some people prefer it. What do you think?

I've put a poll up on our forum. Make your preference known and then reply to the poll to add your comments.
