Dress Code For Professional Women
Friday November 28, 2003
The District Attorney in Philadelphia just announced that she is rescinding her dress code requirement for Philadelphia's female prosecutors to wear skirts or dresses, not pantsuits according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. The requirement has been in place since she took office in 1991, but was changed in response to a proposal from the district attorney's committee on hiring strategies.
Two other "business attire" items caught my attention in this article. The DA said, "it's harder and harder to find suits with skirts - and then the skirts are way too short!" and she left unchanged the requirement that male prosecutors must wear suits and ties.
If I were a male prosecutors, suffering through another day with a piece of colored fabric knotted tightly around my neck, and my female counter-parts wore open-neck blouses or soft turtlenecks I'd be claiming reverse discrimination.
Agree or disagree? Is turnabout fair play? Have women suffered the pains of fashion long enough that it's now the man's turn? Cast your vote in our dress code poll.
