Survey Shows Strong Employer Support For Reservists

Wednesday September 3, 2003
A recent survey by Buck Consultants reports that most US employers, with reservists on their payroll, are not only meeting their obligations under the USERRA legislation, but are providing additional benefits as well.

Two-thirds of the employers responding to the survey are covering all or part of the difference between an employee's pay and what the military pays when the employee is called to active duty, the so-called “pay gap”. This is far different than employer response during the first Gulf War, 12 years ago.

Employers' failure to honor their responsibility to the reservists 12 years ago was instrumental in the passage of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) in 1994.

For more information on the duties and rights of both the company and the employee/reservist under USERRA, see Business Management And War.
